Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced today that he was dropping all charges against Marty and is asking Governor Spitzer to appoint a special prosecutor to "resolve any residual doubts about the prosecution of any other individuals." Spota read a statement, but did not take any questions. Spota said, "It is no longer possible to reasonably infer that the case against Marty Tankleff would be successful." Read the Newsday story here.
Marty - AWESOME news today! I'll bet you're gonna sleep like a baby tonight!! We followed your case since the start and we are just thrilled that you have FINALLY been vindicated.
God Bless ya man.

I am a very trusting person who has always repected and trusted the law and persons of authority. I have major doubts now about those people in authority positions. There seems to be alot of corrupt people in office and higher positions running Long Island. Long Island needs to be a seperate state itself, so we dont get forgotten about. There are alot of people living on L.I. and we need an intelligent, moral person to watch over these people in office here, politics, Law enforcement, etc. There are too many "Chiefs" running around. There should be a watchful eye over them and our system. At least God is watching, and I am not a religious fanatic just a person believing and respecting of my creator.

As a former Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, a former Suffolk County resident, and an attorney since 1990, I have followed this story with the appalled shock that one watches a roadside fatality. The injustice Mr. Tankleff received at the hands of Mr. Spota fills me with derision for the incestuous backwater tactics employed by these little people in power. Any person with a lick of sense, not to mention an elected official, should have been able to figure out that Steurman was the viable suspect. For shame. For shame. For shame.

Marty:
Please get my e-mail address from the family. As the step-son of your aunt, I have never seen a family stand behind an individual like your family have. Your family never doubted your innocence. You have shown an incredible courage that has served as a model to me for patience of realizing that if something is true that you can reach a goal if you don't give up. I just spoke to my aunt and I know you are celebrating. I also wanted to comend you on the way you have handled yourself in realizing life is about moving forward and not pointing fingers. I hope you enjoy your freedom and the DA follows through on his claims to find the real killers of your parents.

Dear Marty,
Oh my God, I am SOOO happy for you! Almost every time I would see your case on an up to-date show, I would cry for you. My mother & I both agreed they should have released you years ago! Enjoy your freedom because you surely deserve it. I am usually pro-prosecution, but your case was an obvious exception to the rule. You are so clearly not guilty that I can't believe it took the DA so many years to finally get it. CONGRATULATIONS! And I wish you all the best life has to offer!!!

Marty:
I hope this haunts you for the rest of your life. Well, I guess it's true, people do get away with murder. I do have a thought: Why were your parents murdered and you were left alive? how you will be able to go on with your life is beyond me!

Congratulations on your long overdue vindication, Marty Tankleff!
I've been following your case since I was a child when the murders took place. My father and I watched you on TV the day of your wrongful conviction. My parents and I always believed in your innocence. I'm very happy for you. My father has since passed, but my mother and her friends were praying for your freedom. Prayers have been answered. Enjoy your well-deserved freedom, and best wishes for a wonderful life ahead.
