I believe Marty is innocent. He was a seventeen year old boy who was railroaded.

Fr. Ronald Lemmert

I stumbled upon this case by accident when Glenn Harris, one of my parishioners at Sing Sing, told me about his involvement and was seeking advice on how to cope with his troubled conscience. Since "snitching" on another criminal would seriously jeapordize his life, he found himself in a serious moral dilemma. Although I repeatedly urged him to "do the right thing" by telling the truth, he was terrified of the consequences, to the point where he was breaking out in hives and having nightmares. That, in addition to my ten years of experience in working in prison, was why I believed his story and eventually was asked to testify on Glenn's behalf when he was too intimidated to do so himself. Since then, I have read everything posted on the Website about Marty's case and I am totally convinced that this has been a horrible travesty of justice from Day One. I cannot imagine how the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office can get away with such an obvious obstruction of justice. If this could happen to Marty, it could happen to anyone else's kid. For the sake, not only of Marty, but for all other innocent victims of such a corrupt system, we must keep the pressure on until the truth triumphs and the real perpetrators are brought to justice.

I've read much of this information and I also believe that there is a very good possiblility that Marty Tankleff is innocent. There were so many 'odd' investigative measures and the lack of investigation into a more likely suspect in the business partner. He even faked his own death. To me that is more incriminating and not as easily explained as what they had against Marty Tankleff.

From the very first time Detective Mc Cready laid eyes upon Marty Tankleff he thought him guilty. Without even speaking to Marty he thought him guilty. The young man was in shock...shock from seeing his beloved parents slain. I am not a doctor but this is what was transmitted to me.

What is wrong with the system that they believe a detective who without any evidence accuses someone of wrong doing. Because he has years of experience being a detective he only has to say your guilty and it gives him credibility. Where is the justice?

Chris Butler

Quite honestly, I'm not sure if Marty is guilty or innocent. What I am fully convinced of, however, is that it is unforgivable to ignore the mounting evidence that may prove his innocence. I think it would be reprehensible to not afford this man a new day in court, in front of a jury of his peers.

One would have to be either blind or harbor ulterior motives to not grant this man a new trial. Frankly, it angers me that a new trial has not been granted already. Incidents like these lead to public distrust of the justice system. In a society based on the rule of law, one would think such developments would be completely unacceptable. Unfortunately, Suffolk county does not seem too distraught by the crumbling of faith in the system due largely to their own stubborn refusal to acknowledge new evidence. I would hate to think one man must pay with his life due to the pride of a governmental body.

Salpeter did a magnificent job. Does crime scene analysis indicate more than 1 perp.?Creedon&Kent entered the house. Both had excessive amounts of blood on their persons according to Harris. Did McCready &crime scene personnel check the house for bloody clothing? Also plumbing traps&piping yes/no.Were there signs of struggle? yes/no? Any obvious signs of physial involvement by Marty? yes/no. Did the text of the confession reflect the presentation style of Mc cready or Tankleff? Words ?Sentence structure Etc.?
Compare to any other written confession taken by Mc Cready. Pro Forma-Boilerplate? Likely.
Does the confession reflect the confused mind of a 17 year old who allegedly committed this crime or the relaxed syyle &content of a seasoned detective. Mc Cready saw this as aa "ground ball" case and then proceeded to wrap it up with little effort at a p more comprehensive investigative effort. Is there any effort to establish linkage between either Steuerman and Creedon? Just some hopefully helpful thoughts.Again, Salpeter's efforts were great. His doggedness and intelligence will help immensely

If I am not mistaken under New York State Law at the time of the incident, the Miranda warnings must be given to a suspect (defined term) prior to eliciting any statements relating to the crime or matter being investigated. If this was not done the statement would be unusable in court by virtue of the Exclusionary Rule.

I have read, listened to, researched and paid close attention to The Tankleff case for a very long time. It is so very clear and evident that Marty is 100% INNOCENT....that he was railroaded...used, abused and manipulated by a gang of THUGS who refer to themselves by various titles of the Judicial System. This is beyond a travesty. It boggles the mind of any "normal" person, that there is such irrational objection to allowing Marty the new trial he so justly deserves. These objections are based solely and purely on the knowledge that Marty WOULD most definitely be found NOT guilty.....and the aftermath would be much more than THEY could EVER EXPLAIN.

Sue

I have never thought Marty was guilty. In fact, I admire him for being strong and keeping the faith. I just hope that someone who is "someone" will say enough is enough and it will no longer be in SC's hands whether they'll grant him a new trial.

18.7.05
Tonight I happened to watch Marty's case on "Real Crime" which was shown here in Australia.
I was so shocked to learn how easily a single detective was able to manipulate, mislead and direct the case as he wanted to against an innocent young man. I was also shocked that a person who is charged with the responsibility of finding the truth is so set on preventing the truth being found out.
I tremble at the thought that if it can happen to a young white male in USA, what chance would I (a coloured person)have of getting justice?
I pray that Marty get a chance to clear his name VERY SOON.

Last night Marty's case was shown on "Real Crime" on Australian television. Watching the program last night made me sit and wonder... how on earth can a judicial system operate efficiently with detectives who obviously don't have the brain power to even tie their own shoe laces. Questions must be asked of this detectives real motivations in this case. The detectives body language and ignorant mannerisms alone should be reason enough for Marty's case to be re-opened.
Nobody knows me like my family do and the fact that Marty's family are by his side tells me that this quiet young vulnerable man was, put simply manipulated by a lazy, one sided detective who possibly felt the need to get some recognition within his workplace. Keep your chin up Mate i'm sure innocence will prevail.

I apologise - it was not my intension to cause upset to innocents. If this is being managed by family or friends of the monster then sorry - please be careful - do not be deceived and made a fool of.
You are good kind people - certainly not misfits - but please find peace another way.
This man murdered your friends...and deep down...deep inside...you know what he did.
Don't sell your souls to the devil.

someof you know

Tankleff's insistence that he never entered his mother's bedroom, her blood was found on a tissue in his pocket and smeared on a light switch in his bedroom.

Can't anybody read?
(Read the DA's arguments and the judge's rulings.)
Marty is guilty.
He's never going to get out of prison.

You are all idiots... he is as guilty as hell... his body language (which IS a science... ask the Israelis) SCREAMED "Oh no, they caught me" when he was found guilty. An innocent person would have been outraged at being found guilty of murdering his parents... Marty just looked down in dismay "They got me"

I have been following this case from the beginning, and can say without a doubt that Marty is NOT GUILTY!!!! I am 32 years old and my cousin was Marty's next door neighbor and best friend growing up. My family has had a few run in's with the Jerry S. and his loser son down in Port Jefferson when our boat was docked next to them. Jerry, and his son are loser drug addicts who think they are above everyone else. I have no doubt Jerry is behind this.
As far as Det. McCready, he is a proven liar and drunk who always played the bad cop. He should be in jail in Marty's place for the crimes he has committed. I look forward to seeing justice being served. God bless you Marty, hang in there!

I am a 58 year old black grandmother from Indiana. I have followed Marty's case for the past several years. It is just absolutely unbelievable how a corrupt policeman and a lackadiasical justice system can lock an innocent young man away for decades with murderers and rapists. I was so touched by Marty's plight that I began writing him in prison. He answers my letters faithfully. He is such a polite and well mannered young man. I would be proud to have him for a son. He is innocent. It is time to let him go home.

Hi just saw this story in a local program here in Monterrey Mexico and a feel that he is a victim of a manipulated legal system i guees he deserves at least a new trial Where is the justice?

Cullen Swanson

I saw the episode of American Justice about Marty today. I really believe that Marty has been rail roaded by the jutice system that has failed him. At 16 years old with his parents just being murdered what right did the detectives have to essentially terroize this young man. Put ourselves in his position at this age. He had to be in total shock. I would have been. Good luck Marty I wish I could help you. I will say a prayer for you. Take care....Sicerely, Cullen

Matthew Erickson

Just caught this on A&E. Some shaddy detective questioning a minor about something this serious without counsel present? Immediately after finding his parents murdered? Not fully investigating somebody with $300,000 worth of motive? Where did they find 12 people to sign off on this? Good luck Marty...and may the government bless you with a massive settlement when all is said and done.

One More comment... I know Ram and Kent personally from crackhouses in Ronkonkoma, Centereach and the one on Marshall drive and I can easily imagine Kent and Harris high on heroin and coke fiending doing the job... like the suffolk county police I dont have any real evidence to support my theories.. I agree with the person who described McCreedy... I've encountered the man wasted on duty.. and yes he played bad cop all the time and was nicknamed "cocksucker" mccready... He enjoyed playing the big prick over teens... I was there hanging with these people and I know what it was like and I know how a picture can be painted about a person thats not at all a fair representation of the person.. I'd stick up for Joey in a ny second.. I knew him when I was a very young kid... his brothers... I watched them work their asses off...worry about their mom and their cat... would they punch defend themselves- sure...are they afraid to stand up to some one- no way. But good men and to listen to talk... hype... made up stories from local lowlifes is like turning to the national enquirer or The Star magazine as a news source.

MARTY'S SITUATION WITH SUFFOLK COUNTY, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY,AND ALL IT'S PLAYERS IS AS TYPICAL TODAY AS IT WAS BACK IN THE CORRUPTION DAYS OF THE 80'S, THEY HAVE JUST LEARNED TO HIDE IT BETTER. I'M FAMILIAR WITH MOST OF THEM DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY. MOST PEOPLE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE SUFFOLK COUNTY LEGAL SYSTEM WOULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY COULD WRONGLY CONVICT AN INNOCENT MAN AND THEN NOT ADMIT IT WHEN FACED WITH THE FACTS. WELL THEY CAN, AND I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE. 15 YEARS AGO I FACED A SIMILAR SITUATION. AT TRIAL I WAS FACED WITH AN UNWRITTEN, UNSIGNED, PHONY CONFESSION,HOMICIDE DETECTIVES WHO LOOKED AT ME WITH A STRAIGHT FACE AS THEY PERJURED THEMSELVES AND I LEARNED THAT THERE IS NO FAIR TRIAL IN SUFFOLK COUNTY.IF NOT FOR A TRIAL ATTORNEY THAT WAS NOT PART OF THE SYSTEM AND A FEW HOMICIDE DETECTIVES THAT DID NOT REHEARSE THEIR LIES WELL ENOUGH, I WOULD HAVE SPENT THE REST OF MY LIFE IN JAIL. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THESE DETECTIVES COULD FABRICATE EVIDENCE, TESTIFY TO IT IN OPEN COURT, AND THEN SLEEP AT NIGHT. NO CONSCIENCE PROFESSIONALLY OR PERSONALLY. AND WITHOUT FINANCIAL RESOURCES AND HELP, THE AVERAGE DEFENDANT WHO IS INNOCENT CAN NEVER PROVE IT.I LIVED THAT NIGHTMARE AND THE AVERAGE SUFFOLK COUNTY RESIDENT MAY NEVER UNDERSTAND.

I watched in disbelief your story (Oprah's show).
Why there was not a lawyer present while you were investigated?
How are you paying for all the court fees and investigation?
